Lagos Nigeria is the commercial city of Nigeria, the West African oil giant. Millions of Nigerians have migrated from their villages to Lagos in search of a better life.

Why?

Well, they have heard of how beautiful life is in Lagos Nigeria. They have heard that jobs are abundant and that money is available for the taking.

They also watch Nigerian movies where they see overhead bridges, network of tarred roads, high-rise buildings, beautiful mansions, and impressive cars. And they desire to be a part of that affluence.

Consequently, they abandon everything else in their obscure villages and migrate to Lagos Nigeria.

Unfortunately, they find out too late that there are no streets of gold in Lagos and that life in Lagos is tough. But then they find out this harsh reality when they arrive Lagos Nigeria and are then too ashamed to return to their villages or
home town empty handed.

The result?

They end up on the street homeless and their dreams battered.

Is this to say everything about Lagos is tough life?

Of course, NO.

But as with every commercial city, there are the rich who live in beautiful mansions, the medium income earners who live a good life even though they are not stinking rich, and then there are the poor who live in ghettos and unspeakable places.

If you're thinking of relocating to Lagos Nigeria and don't want to live in the ghetto, then you should come equipped to make ends meet.

TIPS TO SUCCEED IN LAGOS NIGERIA

The reason many people fail financially in Lagos is because they come in search of a white collar job.

Some of these people have just finished high school, some have just graduated from the University, and some did not go to school at all.

Irrespective of their educational status, these folks come to Lagos ill-prepared. They come in search of white collar jobs and have no other skill. And so they fail when they cannot find a well-paying white collar job.

Thinking of relocating to Lagos Nigeria?

Then do the following:

1. Understand the dynamics of how Lagos works

I suggest you pay a visit to Lagos and see what makes the city tick before investing substantial amount of money into relocating.

For example, what is special about Lagos? How do people make money? How do people live? Where do people live?

2. Understand what you need to earn to live comfortably

What size of accommodation would you need if you do relocate to Lagos? What is the cost of this size of accommodation? Would you need to pair up with someone and share the bill of an accommodation? If so, what would your share of the accommodation bill be?

3. Determine how you will make money in Lagos

This is important.

Before you relocate to Lagos Nigeria, first give serious thought to how you intend to make money in Lagos, otherwise your case may not be a dream come true.

For example, do you intend to get a white collar job? If that is the case, you need to get the job before relocating.

Why?

It's pretty simple.

Over 200,000 people migrate to Lagos Nigeria yearly, most of them in search of white collar jobs. Sadly, only a small fraction of them actually get the job they seek. The majority join the unemployment market that is already congested.

You may or may not be one of those who get a job. So, think twice.

4. Develop a skill that can generate money

The best way to make money in Lagos is to actually have a skill that is marketable in Lagos.

For example, millions of people living a normal life in Lagos do not work for any company. They work for themselves.

The truth is, the more commercially oriented and developed a city is, the more opportunities there to make money - if you are humble enough to positively exploit those opportunities.

For example, here are a list of informal jobs people do to earn money in Lagos.

a. Painting jobs
b. Plumbing jobs
c. Electronics repair
d. Barbing salon
e. Hair stylist (female)
f. Ice cream manufacture
g. Sachet water manufacture
h. Auto repairs
i. Car wash
j. Baking
k. Private training for kids and high school students
l. Grocery store ownership
m. Real estate agency
n. Fashion design or tailoring
o. Fabric design
p. Printing services

. . . and more. The list is endless.

Use the tips above to find your rhythm and particular kind of business. Then exploit how to turn it into revenue in Lagos Nigeria.

There is a huge market with a huge appetite in Lagos. That means there are money making opportunities for people who have eyes to see them. But if the only thing you see is white collar job, you may end up being disappointed.

How bad is this?

Many who are jobless in Lagos are also homeless. And thousands of them have either turned to crime or prostitution.

This must not happen to you!

It won't with proper planning, foresight, and dogged determination.

So, come to Lagos Nigeria prepared to make your dream come true . . . with or without white collar jobs.
